Post Heater Tube Alternatives?
Just out of curiosity - has anybody tried anything else for heater tubes? I got fed up with the normal type - I was using the car long distance Reading to South Devon and back twice a week over winter, and overtaking lorries on the M5 in the dead of night in ferocious rain and howling wind was plenty to concentrate on without the windscreen bloody misting up!

I got these from my friendly car shop and some jubilee clips and they work so much better in the winter. They heat up quicker and get heat to the windscreen quicker too.
The only trouble is they are like having two noise trumpets, and they amplified the engine noise to a fairly mental degree. One miserable headachy trip later and I cut up a load of soundproofing and glued it to the inside of the tubes. Much better but there is still a certain amount of noise bouncing up through.
I suspect in the summer they being are a source of warmth that i don't want so I might go back to the normal type soon and get one of those little ecas fans.

How odd, I was just coming on here to post about this.

I refurbished the heating system on my car yesterday.I fitted 1 ply neoprene ducting from here:
http://www.autosiliconehoses.com/silicone-hose-shop/air-ductings/black-neoprene-air-ducting.html

I bought 3 meters of 76mm and a meter of 63mm which has been enough to do my AK350 and my D*lly. The reduction increases the velocity of the air flow on the demisters.

I also refurbished the heating control pipes which is well worth doing. I pulled the control wire and its sleeving out from the metal piping that it's housed in, cleaned up the control wires, lubed them with PTFE and refitted.

I have been BLOWN ( ;) ) away by the results. I'd forgotten how effective 2cv heat exchangers are. With the controls on cold (dump) the noise reduction is incredible, I can't actually here the engine at tick over sat in the drivers seat.

On the 'floor heating' there is a hot, powerful flow of air and on 'demise' the windscreen cleared last night within about 30 seconds. In fact, on demist, theres so much air in my face its almost uncomfortable. wollies don't have quite the hurricane that an ami6/AK engines can produce because of their bigger fans, but its still impressive.

There's more engine noise with the demist on, but not so much that you couldn't have a civilised conversation at 70mph. And as I say on 'dump' and "floor heat' there's minimal hot air leakage into the cabin and SILENCE I love it!

The neoprene itself is fire proof and waterproof - unlike cardboard!

Oh brilliant, good timing too. That could be exactly what I need then. An alternative that's quieter. I think the clangy metal nature of mine is whats producing the ridiculous amount of noise. Lol.

Hi, Thanks for that link.
Looks like you've only needed one jubillee clip. Are these hoses a good fit without them?
Cheers

Yeah they're a great fit. If i'd had more clips I'd have used them, but I only had one left as I'd used them all on the van!

Sam.

I ordered a couple of metres of the 76mm stuff to try out on my acad and it seems a pretty loose fit on both the bulkhead vent thing and the heat exchangers. Did you go for a larger size for any particular reason?

it will be very loose on the bulkhead as they're small ducts, hence i used the smaller tubing, should be ok on the exchangers with a cable tie?

I think (as you say) its down to the bulkhead ducts being a much smaller diameter on an Acadiane than the heat exchanger outlet - this would be compensated for with the foam in a normal tube, but not in this thinner-walled stuff. I still like this though - might try and bodge together a foam collar of sorts on the bulkhead ducts this afternoon to make it a better fit.

If all else fails i can always send it back and get a smaller diameter that is more of a compromise, I guess.

As with most things on the 2CV, Citroën did quite a good job in selecting the heater tubes. I experimented with alternatives but now gone back to the original.
