Im loosing brake fluid, I think from the seals below my fluid resovoir. Im looking for a screw or bolt to remove the fluid tank, but cant find one. How does the tank remove from the master cylinder. Any help appreciated pete |

As AZS already says, there are no screwes/nuts involved with these newer reservoirs.... just wiggle and pull.... Out is easy, in is a little bit tricky..... take a good look is it really leaking at these connections???? Clean it up, make it dry take a good brake (you don't need to drive just hit the pedal for a minit or 2)  and look where it is really comming from.....

The reservoir needs to be pushed to the side, so that the bayonet fittings in its base are 'rolled' out of the rubber seals in the master cylinder. Thanks for quick replies, will have another look on Friday morning. To be honest Im grasping at straws as to where its coming from. If the car is left for a week or so the header tank is empty, nothing on the garage floor. The area below the master cylinder has a thin film of LHM on it so that was my first thourght. I have changed the front calipers and seals and checked the rear cylinders - all bone dry. |

Isn't the fluid container broken, they will break at the seams when older... Put new seals into the leads going into the master brake cylinder also. Did you take a good look inside the car??? Are you sure it doesn;t leak at that end where the rod from the brakepedal goes in??? They will leak there also.... |

I had that one - lifted the carpet and there was a green swimming pool behind it

never thourght of the rod. Thanks for that suggestion. I will look at that on Friday also. As the master cyclinder has been untouched for 30 odd years it may be easier just to do a complete change out. |

If that's the plan, maybe worth adding the bit I forgot earlier; refitting the reservoir back onto the master cylinder. Using the appropriate brake fluid as a lubricant, pressing the reservoir straight down seems to work just fine. kawasakikz1 wrote: never thourght of the rod. Thanks for that suggestion. Do not forget that if are to change the complete unit the reservoir has to still come off as the master cylinder comes out from inside the car. Can be a fiddle..... |
