Fitted new exhaust on the 2CV yesterday. Followed instructions from Ecas and all went well, no leaks and it all went together easily. As the heading says the handbrake lever hits the tube that goes from the crossbox to the heat exchanger on release.
Visually it all looks right and I can't see that any adjustment to the position of the box is going to make much difference, I didn't have to make any extreme adjustments to the heat exchangers to get things to match up. As far as I could see the new crossbox looked identical to the one I took off.
Any advice most welcome.

Could you PLEASE post a photo....

Suspect you need to rotate it on the mounting bolts - the heat exchangers will push it back and down - you may have to slacken all off - swan neck, heat exchangers at the manifold and fiddle it around till good......

Nelsthebass, yes, I guess it's out with the spanners tomorrow but it seems a shame to disturb it as the job went so well. Previous times I've been chasing leaks for days.

Yeh, it's a real bitch to get them right if your only doing bits and even though they should all be identical, manufacturing tolerances can make a big difference in tight spaces!

Last time I didn't change the crossbox and it was difficult to line up the interpipe. This time I've replace the lot.
Having had a closer look it looks like it only needs a small adjustment. The handbrake does release but not quite back to the stops.

The back pipe tends to either move back or forward when the cross box is unbolted from the swan neck and, whilst you think its bang on when you offer up the cross box, it pulls or pushes it the wrong chuffing way!

Don, out of interest, which chassis is under your car?

Bloody hell Ken - they are not slightly out, they are miles out! No wonder new boxes are a right bastard to fit!

The crossbox I replaced had not been bolted to the gearbox I think it was a half inch or so lower than it should have been. I just thought that whoever replaced it last had just forgot the bolts but perhaps leaving them out was the way they got it lined up correctly.

I don't know what chassis it is but it's not Galvanised. I believe the car was refurbished by Sutton Cordiner of Leicester. I contacted them to find out when I first got the car but received no reply.
