So my rear bump stops on the 2cv have seen better days... can I just amputate them, accepting the risk of bottoming out on the wings?

Would that be MoTable?

Not in my experience !

It won't bottom out on the wings, I reckon the bumper and towbar will hit the floor first. If you make a good enough job of removing them the tester won't know they were meant to be there.

Hi Sam. A missing bump-stop is not a reason for mot failure.

The Shed had no bump stops just rusted stumps and never even got an advisory....

Far be it from me to suggest doing something properly, but as your car is a bare shell off the chassis with no rear wings on, why not take the opportunity to repair the bump stops and replace the missing parts?

Daras,
to be technically correct, the official wording is as follows.
"Note: a missing bump stop rubber is not a reason for rejection."

Also, since the bump stop mounting bracket lies within 30cm of a seat belt mounting point, if corrosion of that bracket had affected the strength of the inner wing, that could (or should?) be a reason for failure.

Those rear bump stop brackets are very efficient rust traps, if left to their own devices...

Edit; as Russell ( has already) said. ;)

This is my worry.

no prob sam bung it through
mind u, its important to get a 2cv mot at a specialist garage not quickfit wankers
mine passed with rust by the rear seatbelt mounts by unbolting the rear seat belts and removing the seat
