Re: 6v fuel gauge on 12v
Could you not wire a resistor in the feed line?

Re: 6v fuel gauge on 12v
Apparently yes but I wondered if a proper 6v fees would be more stable.

Re: 6v fuel gauge on 12v
A stablised 6 volt supply is the only option; a single resistor won't work because the current drawn by the gauge and sender varies with the level of fuel. samfieldhouse wrote: Apparently yes but I wondered if a proper 6v fees would be more stable.

Re: 6v fuel gauge on 12v
or just fit a newer dash then youll have a working fuel gauge AND mph speedo

Cheers for that Sean wrote: or just fit a newer dash then youll have a working fuel gauge AND mph speedo Yeah but where's the fun in that

Re: 6v fuel gauge on 12v
When I changed my '63 AZU to 12 volt, I left fuel gauge and sender the same except for the dash lamp. Works perfectly. Note, there isn't a stabilised supply, just the alternator regulator. The only small problem I have is that the speedo reads 10 kph fast.

Re: 6v fuel gauge on 12v
There is quite some debate as to wether 6v gauges will work on 12v, the VW forums are full of it...

Re: 6v fuel gauge on 12v
Sam, you literally just need 2 resistors to step 12V to 6V in the form of a voltage divider. So your Vin is 12V... The V out is controlled by the ratio of the two resistors.. put simply Vout = (R1/ (R1+R2))*Vin Basically to drop the voltage by half you need all the same resistor values...Using 150Ohm resistors Vout = (150/300) *12 = 6
