 Fuel sender wiring So I rewired a bit more of the van today and (as far as I know) it's all ok so far. Apart from a slight glitch that when I indicate the level of fuel in the tank appears to double. Which I have doubts about.
For now I've left it disconnected and will watch my milage but basically am I right in thinking that:
The sender connects to Earth.
The gauge has three connectors, one to the sender, one to earth and one to a live feed (ignition).
Is that right, or am I missing something?

Re: Fuel sender wiring what type of gauge/speedo have you got? normally 2cv stuff is : ignition 12v to the gauge, 8~9v out to the sender (gauge is a resistor) via the yellow terminals to the citroen bullet on top of sender and then finally to earth via 1/4" "lucar" spade to earth.
seem to remember one of the gauges on the dyane has 3 terminals but then it bolts on to the integrated circuitry

Re: Fuel sender wiring The gauge has three connectors, one to the sender, one to earth and one to a live feed (ignition). -------------------------------------------- one to the sender- yes one to earth- no one a live feed -yes i think the one you say is an earth maybye the back light bulb  also the feed may not be connected to a true feed- try connecting the feed directly to the battery and see what happens

The gauge is from a standard late 2cv and has 3 spade terminals on the rear.

Re: Fuel sender wiring Sam, in that case, what are the chances that you've accidentally connected the lead for the indicator warning lamp to the speedometer bulb? Medium or high probability? ken Reminds me of the time years ago when I mastakenly wired up my front indicator to the horn, and hooted my way round the chaotic roundabout at M5 J4. People got out of the way rather quick, so I was tempted to make a permanent modification.

Re: Fuel sender wiring or the time i had a ford consul, the main earth lead became detached from the engine block so the only thing left for earth return was the choke cable  on starting up it glowed red hot then melted  it was a sod of a job opening the bonnet
