Playing with sketchup

Inspired by Tony England's Norman -44 roof rack:

Something to take on a raid car;

Allows the roof to half open as well as an extended boot lid, I think... :?

Would love to make one but have fuck all time really!

Ideas?

Is it actually going to hold enough to make it worth drilling into the body?

I don't think you'd need to drill the body, I think you could clamp it on like the Citroen racks do, that profile is the same down to the rear lights.

You should produce them as part of your Six-0-two Fabrications!
I would happily refine my cad drawing for you to use, that way you can get all the steel cut and shaped for you to weld up!?
I actually don't mind drilling mounting holes, but I can see the practicality of a clamp type arrangement.

The only real difference between this and Tony's is it extends further forward and slightly wider, only allowing the roof to flip open, not roll all the way back.
it's footprint is basically 1 metre square.

Using 3/8 SS tube this construction would weight around 11kg's.

I'm interested in knowing if I have to many 'slats' or if it would need a bearer running across the middle or is there is a better way of construction rather than butt welding.

Should Russ choose to accept the challenge of making these I bet we could come up with a way of making it modular so that it can be flat packed... now i'm thinking out loud!

I won't accept the challenge right now, but thanks for the offer. I have too much on

Looks very neat,but I would not want to put a load that high up and far back due to stability risks.

Yes. My brackets (stainless copies of originals) will fit there, so you wouldn't need to drill the bodywork, (and using the brackets would be a better way to deal with a heavier load too).
