I would give the 123 Evo a wide birth!!
Not had good results with them.

go to the 12 Spark
and it will sort your problems
ask Mark Lewis, with 2 years driving on a 12 spark, he will tell you how good they are

Back to the subject: When searching for problems with this "80s technology", like the "car stopping and then you turn the key and everything is OK", besides terminals cleaning, and captor checking, what else should we do?
Thanks for any advice :)

I use the 1-2 spark with great, no very great satisfaction. I also use the "coil on plugs" without ignitor, so no haslle with the selction of a good ignition coil. And another thing to know : two cops, cost less then half the price of the coils "suitable for electronic ignition" as used on 123 ignition modules and motorcycles. On top of that I do not need any high tension cable !

Hi Edce,
Which coil over plug, link perhaps
Cheers

Any 12 V type for Renault petrol engines will do. I bought also these
https://nl.aliexpress.com/item/32891157 ... 5f87IUKcfX.

and the same from BERU, but these are a little bit more expensive (18 euro p/p)

Bobine BERU - ZS552

Maybe info already known : no adaptor is needed on the cam shaft. A pick up it made to the flat outside of he flywheel (M6 bolt in the flywheel side, sensor mounted to the engine housing.)

@Edce,
Thanks,
Have 1-2 Spark works OK but some times, mis fires when heavy offroad.

Those COP are quite long.

Have some very short ones, but they are 1.4 Ohmn so hard to use.

Looking for short COP's to go with 123 ignition ??

The length of the cops' is no problem. They have to be mounted with a stand fixed (wellded or with a U-bolt ?) to the manifold. Some degree of bending the rubber parts of the cop is no problem either. The spring inside the rubber has to make contact to the spark plug top. That is the only requierement.
The cops are 0,6 Ohm and have to be connected in series.

First. If the 1-2-Spark misfires on heavy off road I bet it has something to do with bad connectors/connections on your side...

Second. You can,t use cops with 123. They need only to load (dwell) a few milli seconds to ignite proper. If you give them dwell for more then 4ms they saturate and make a spark when they want which is to Early. When I tested them they suddenly made the engine pink very very bad.. So I know for sure with the dwell 123 gives it will pink youre engine to death within seconds.. Be warned..

Third. My bet. You can use 1.4 ohm with 1-2-spark Just bring the dwell down.

I,m driving coil on plugs for more then a year now, didn,t mis a single beat. You just need to bring down the dwell.

Now this one is my favorite.. 150 to 9000 rpm..

I have the black harley type coil running at the moment. it wouldnt idle very well at first until i increased the dwell. Then i researched and found instructions on a megasquirt site.

the general idea is to increase or decrease the dwell until it is just on the cusp of miss firing at idle, then add 0.2 ms. Thats point two of a millisecond, not two milliseconds.

Works well for me. :)

I have some smart VAG cops, but they stopped working! Bought some more, and they didnt work (and were poorer quality)! So i have wiring issue. Which i will get to, but want lpg working first.

Thanks guys for sharing your views.
However, I would like to insist a bit more on this old technology (I've also used 123 ignition on the previous engine but not yet on the 650 engine. I know a guy who did it and he is not very satisfied...)

I've gone through a few mal-functions of this system and got some simple solutions, like these ones:
When, in Summer, the car, after some kms is parked and you want to restart it, minutes later, and it won't work, I just pour some cold water on the captors and also, but carefully, on the coil. Then I turn the key on and the engine will start.
In case this procedure won't work (it only happened once) I just change either the coil or the captors.

But the situation I described on my previous post is new and I still haven't found what the hell is going on... :?
