Designing the exhaust, it is going to be a 2 in 1 exhaust I think it will perform great (enough) when finished.... run out of 90 degrees elbows today......

Inlet manifolds are ready but I'm not happy (they are twisted a little) but for testing they will do just fine.....

Post Re: BMW 2cv engine conversion
I am looking into the mounting issue for Pete

so will forward my ideas when sorted

But my feeling is
Front mounting is not too good so i shall try to use the Rear of the engine / adaptor plate
Laser cut steel with special rubber mounts pressed in. (i got several engine mounts from different cars already in my 4x4 data base so should find a suitable one).
all bolted to the chassis side rails via special pressed / folded lower fixing
probably 2 x M10 each side

then possibly run the exhaust under the engine with some sort of Heat exchanger.

only initial thoughts, and no chance to use original 2cv engine mounts as
most are shit and can't even hold a 600 cc motor down!!

PS Morovan was great Pete did as usual manage to finish and put up a great show
and his preparation was right up to his usual standard!!!!!

This is also my opinion, I don't know why but it is just a feeling, why dit Citroen the same with 4 cilinders GS/GSA Axel Ami...

I'm going to use 4 2cv engine mounts mounted at the adaptor plate... putting as much standard parts in it as possible..
You can always fix it with a bolt through the mount to stop it from ripping apart...

I'm going for an overhead exhaust, less complicated/twisted and Always the possibillity to put 1 or 2 turbo's on it... (just because I can)... Exhaust underneath all the heat is going up into the engine... Exhaust above the engine, wrapped in heattape is the way to go for me...

PS. I'm using a 1200 cc Beamer, but I think it is way overdone, adaptorplate is diffrent, a counterweight at the back of the engine is getting in the way and so on... but on the otherhand, a 1200cc doesn't need to work as hard as an 1150 so maybee it is cooler....

And ofcourse I'm going to use 1-2-Spark, so that's why I'm going to start with 2 carburetors.... If I'm going for injection (Original throttlebodys) it will be Megasquirt or
1-2-Squirt (I know I can do it but will take another year to develop)....

From this point on I'm going to use standard universal exhaust parts...

The exhaustmanifold is made out of 48mm steamtubes about 3mm think... Can't wait to see it glow in the dark :D :D :D :D :D

going on with 63mm standart piping... and mufflers..

2 in 1 exhaust, I love it already......

Take a look at this website....

Hi Geo,
Are you going to put in a lambda sensor (or maybe 2)? I guess you need to know if the setting of the carb's is kind of ok or not.

this machine is going to be a beast, quite scary to drive i guess :) maybe the fastet 2 cil 2cv around??

edit: isn't it possible to make some kind of (electric)coolingfan in front of the engine with some metal covers around the engine like 2cv's have? or isn't there enough space?

greetzzzzzzzzzzzz

Just thinking about it last night.. I have 1 lambda probe lighing around (from my turbo engine) so that goes in for now (behind the point where the 2 exhaust come together..

When theres to much diffrence between the 2 carbs/trottlebodies I'm going to use 2 probes each in 1 leg of the inletmanifold....

Thinking about a balancepipe too, but that can also being realised in my configuration.....

Blue is 1 lambda probe
Yellow are the 2 lambda probes
green is the balancepipe...

Nice work!
Did you remove the balance shaft, or is it something else laying on the engine?

Post Re: BMW 2cv engine conversion
nice work! Glad to see it's all coming together.

Would highly recommend the biggest oil cooler you can find and some electric fan at the front of the engine bay when it gets finished off, this was the only real issue with mine when run hard or sat in traffic. I think it could be even hotter in yours with the exhaust over the motor & still in the engine compartment?

Keep it up, BMW power rocks.

@AZS good observation it is the counter weight,, it is a f**king pain in my *** it sits at the place where the 2cv flywheel needs to be.... 1 of the problems I still have to solve...

@ fritz... I disagree... Heat goes up.... so where do you want to make your exhaust, under the engine or over the engine.... I prefer over the engine wrapped in heattape... working on the oilcooler..... found an advert of a Ford pickup automatic gearbox oilcooler.... Put it probably above the engine, like the intercooler at my turbocar.
