Ooh 'eck. Speed related repetitive knocking coming form somewhere. I'm thinking 2cv joint or wheel/suspension issue - what might it be?

swollen seam on the front wheel - have you been messing round with wheels lately or is it back on the road after a long layup?

A friend of mine, rang telling about this serious knocking while driving. He didn't find anything so decided to strip the engine. When finished and not finding anything wrong, began putting it back together only to discover that the knocking came from the front exhaust muffler knocking on the chassis

Is it engine speed related or wheel speed related?
If you press the clutch remains the same?
What if you engage another gear?
Are the 2cv joints without (much) play?
What's the frequency of this knocking and when it is changing?

It's wheel speed related, we've had the car a month and done 1200 miles in it. Was fine yesterday and just as I set off in it the knocking became apparent. My wife drove it earlier in the day and reckons it was fine.

I'll jack it up and spin each wheel independently and report back.

Cheers!

You may not get the knock when it's jacked up: it may need a bit of weight on the wheel.

Just saying ......
