hi, I´d really appreciate a quick answer to this queiry before I dive headfirst into a pit of bills that I won´t be able to pay easily!! :D

I´m about to buy a 2cv6 in spain (where I live) and the front passenger side suspension has collapsed( right hand side over here of course), weirdly its the 2nd I´ve seen like this out of 5 and it strikes me as odd.

I´m hoping that the tie rod has somehow perforated the spring cup thing inside that tube and that with a simple 20 pound replacement piece its a done job. however seeing as its pretty rust free I´m surprised that there would be any corrosion inside the tube or indeed the force neccesary to break those components. hence my question I´m sure you folks have seen plenty of things similar

How have you diagnosed this? Is it leaning over a bit and low at the front? That's likely to be a chassis. Most probable cause of suspension collapse would be a broken knife edge shackle (£20 and two minutes to fix) but I suspect it's a rotten chassis if tge cars been off the road a while and ropey.

you can see here the dip at the front right, which Is more obviously in reality, the owner said it was something to do with the suspension cylinder..he is a mechanic, the chassis is dry as a bone I doubt (and pray) its not that!!!

I hope it is the front end of the ties although the cans will need to be opened at somepoint for lower springs etc ???

With the tyres flat and with one wheel rim sitting on a concrete edge, it's not going to sit square on it's suspension. Together with it might be in need of the tie rods adjusting to get the correct ride height (before you slam it :-) ) It is hard to judge the state of the suspension. But you can always beat the price down suggesting the suspension is shot anyway. From the pictures it looks in fairly good shape and even has GS wheel trims..Good luck. I also note that theses are rear end shots of the car have you any of the front?

thanks banjo, its true, the more I look at the pix the more I think it could be the terrain, it was the owner who mentioned it not me??..I was too busy trying to get to the bottom of the paperwork story to be bothered with the photos, there are sooo many old beaties without papers here in spainand its about 500€ to register from scratch as a historic vehicle.
I´m pretty sure I´m gonna go ahead, just had the dreaded conversation with the wife who never agrees with any of my ideas but I played the "its a great investment card" quite heavily :ugeek:

heres the pic from the front and the inside which i´m hoping that when the rat shit and the furry covers are taken away will reveal a mint as new set of upholstery!!! :lol: last mot was 1989

even my 8 year old girl says the eye stickers need to go

I had a tie rod end strip off from the suspension rod - fixed it by cutting off the bad bit of rod and buying longer 'specials' from ECAS. Could be a broken spring in the can ?

russell, you win!, the right hand side is seperated about 3 cm just in front of the suspension axle thingy. which means the front end droops down of course, BUT also the rear left wheel is frozen so when it was dropped from the tow truck in reverse all the slack was taken out in the rear left suspension which was why it was so high also....I´m working on freeing off the rear wheel so I can push it around first..whats the best way.tow it around for a while?
and the chassis..I suppose that means a body off repair no?

Sounds like the brake shoes are rust welded to the drum.I wouldn't recommend towing to free it off, your likely to do more damage. Take the offending side wheel off and take off the drum ,you need a 44mm 3/4 drive socket and a breaker bar plus an exstension to undo the hub nut. If you drill out where its been punched to lock it to the hub first,it makes it easier.I pulled my drums off using the wheel nuts back on the threads and a 3 legged puller,a leg under each nut. In your case I would tap around the drum with a hammer to try to release some of the rust. Then try to pull off the drum it's is going to take some effort and the chances are the drums are scrap.You could squirt plus gas or the like between the back plate and the drum to try to assist with releasing it,after a soak over night. You've got some hard work ahead :-)
