Post 2-1 exhaust
Im fairly interested in getting one, even though the vans not running :?
I have seen a video of one and its quite noisy
Is there an alternative torpedo silencer which would dampen the sound?

Bit of a stupid question as all the 2-1 exhaust seems to do is dampen performance and make more noise :|

Basically I wouldn't bother unless the money's burning a hole in your pocket. The standard crossbox may look very agricultural but Citroen knew what they were doing. I've spoken to people who've been tuning 2cvs for over 20 years, and you won't gain a lot from a 2-1 on a standard engine. The popular budget/boy racer mod is to cut the crossbox open and remove the baffles, it gives a bit more noise and some might say more power, but no guarantees.

To actually answer your question, no there's only one type of torpedo silencer for 2cvs, but you could fit a larger universal silencer if you wanted to.

As I understand it, the "Eendecent" one that ECAS sell was developed on a dyno, and does produce genuine increases. 4x4 SuperFinn or Pony are the people to speak to on that.

I would wonder how much of an increase in mid range, also note that this is with a good engine! Maybe by the time you've spent £195 an fiddled around sorting out your carb to get a correct fuel/air mix and maybe another silencer to keep things a little quieter. Then I would question is the few extra clean revs you may gain and a little more mid range power, are you really going to notice it on the road? I would doubt it. I've over the years tried various so called tuning techniques on my bikes, some worked but there was always a trade off somewhere. I finally came to the conclusion that the manufacture designed things for the best power and reliability of given engine set up.For me reliability is the key, yeah I know someone is going to say they didn't always get it quite right. For example the Norton mk2a commando with the very quite black cap silencers, designed to comply with the American market sapped performance. I changed mine to the long reverse cone ones from the 750 model with suitable rejetting, all on the advice of a factory tester and racer. What a transformation across the range and still really tractable. Pity the gearbox's were not upto scratch but that's another story, maybe that was the trade off the failure of the layshaft bearing several times! That's my rant on the subject .....................

I'm running one of the 2-1 exhausts again. The first one that I helped Louis with years ago was loud but on the dyno had increased power & torque.

The current version has a longer tormpedo so useable.

I definitely noticed the torque advantage when driving thru sticky mud and on long drag hills there is less need to drop a gear.

I know one chap who is running a 1-2 exhaust is getting better MPG so that is noticeable.

As to weather you notice the torque difference I suppose it depends a bit on how you drive...

I should have the dyno files around. When I find them I'll post them.

For now here's how to get 1 to 1.5 HP by adding forced air induction but I suppsoe you already have that on your Dyane

The "Eendecent" style 2 into 1 exhausts appeal to me and are on my buy list not because of any apparent tuning advantage but because its less likely to protrude below the bottom of the chassis and become a snagging obstacle in Raids.

The comparison graphs are interesting and the comment about driving style, which would seem t agree with mine re on he road :-) However I along with many others fitted 2 into 1 systems on twin motorcycle engines on bikes used with a sidecar, this was to improve torque as more pulling power was needed, also you'd go up a tooth on your gearbox sprocket to lower the gearing. :-)

Found them.

These are 6 years old and for the prototype exhausts that Louis was making. The new ones are better.

Look at the torque curve and you'll see its smoother and higher across the rev range. Power is highter as well across the range.

Max Torque and Power are up as well if you are into that. I'm more interested in torque at low end as that's where the 4x4 needs it.
