Post subject:  LED Bulb question

Just picked up a pair of LED H3 bulbs to replace the bulb in my Joey (Joey Deacon = Beacon). Now I know nowt about electrics, but when I connect the bulb I get the mearest flicker and then nothing.
Could they just be cheap and duff, or am I missing something?

Does the beacon have a built in flasher?

Possibly not enough power? We have started delving into LED street lighting at work and they're pretty sensitive.

The joey is just a rotating mirror around stationary bulb. I wondered if power was an issue... there was me thinking 12V was 12V.

BTW would running a 6V bulb in it make it run hot and blow fuses?

Try giving it some revs, maybe on idle the alternator isn't giving enough oooomph? I don't really understand electrics, despite technically being a 'lighting engineer'...

Put a normal bulb in and accept that like me, you're not cut out for this shit.

Believe me, from expensive purchases, the cheap LED lights are nothing but garbage and not worth bothering with - try and find high white normal filament bulbs instead...

Polarity's the most likely problem. For an LED, it's important. For a halogen, it isn't. Probably the ciggy socket or plug are wired wrong-way-round. The centre prong has the fuse, so is the +ve, the side sprungyprongs are -ve.

H3s have a trailing wire - that's the +ve, with the body being the -ve. With that in mind, it should be easy to just bodge it to a charger or something to see if the LED itself works.
