Just wondering what the thoughts are to the removing of the A panel by the bonet to all allow better engine air flow/cooling? I've seen them removed or with the top section removed and wondered if it's worth doing? I'm going to Spain and wondered if its worth removing them as it hopefully will be HOT there. I've never bothered in the past but keep seeing more cars driving without them so there may be something in it... |

On standard config. no. Raid config yes. If the chassis is fitted with full bash plate reducing air flow, then yes the more air removed from the engine compartment the better. |

nope its contra productive - watch the raindrops on your bonnet the next time its raining they form a T shape the airflow is at right angles to the A panels as its deflected off the sides by the windscreen the scoops then act to draw air out the engine bay. if you intend on grinding along a sand track in 1st and 2nd then yes it helps - bowling along a Spanish higway then keep em standerd and loose any under bonnet fluff that hangs down. Hope this is in addition to having heat escape tubes fitted and in good condition, not looking like something the dog has been chewing on for a few weeks...

PM sent BTW So is this nothing more then a second scoop just like an old ripple bonnet?? I think this will work well especialy at high speed. I think this will actually make more sense then taking them out completly..... Here in Holland some guys bend them out even more; fixing them with a rubber bend from under the seat. fixing them towards the outer edge of the wing...... Anybody got a windtunnel in the backyard to test it???? |

I have removed them for a raid and refitted them when I returned home. How much extra cooling the removal offers im not sure. I would like to see some objective information. I removed them more because its one less pair of things to worry about, especially anticipating the likely hood of some maintenance along the way. In my mind the negative is the risk of police interest in a 'funny old car with panels missing'. Though, given another hot weather raid I would probably remove the panels again |
