Post Wheel bearings
Firstly the bearings are the same size for both back and front aren't they?? (Ami super chassis/suspension etc)

Secondly is there a tool available to remove the retaining ring?? Or is it just a case of hammer and chisel?? Or suppose a tool can be fashioned/welded to do the job!!

Any advice most welcome ........cheers

yes front and rears the same ( or should be) tools available for removal Though i dont know if they fit so well on the slightly larger bearings

if you can get a replacement ring for your bearing size the old stubborn one can be butchered out by first drilling in the cut outs down the ring, with increasingly larger drills, till you are about to break into the thread. Then punch the ring inwards, it will break if you've done it right and the broken edge acts like a tap as you wind it out.

If you can't borrow a tool for the bigger ring and you have access to a mig welder, or arc at a push put a ring of closely spaced tacks of well on a nice high amperage all around the inside of the bearing ring the thermal shock will un-seize the ring & shrink it ever so slightly then it should tap out with ease with a cold chisel. Obviously it wrecks the bearing ring! Oh and be a little careful not to weld up the notches, you need them to knock it out. Another option is to burn them out with a plasma cutter, the ring is much softer than the bearing housing so burns out without damaging the treads.
