So, where exactly does the oil go? Do I need to grind the end off the can?

No, just slip the rubber gaiter off, where it goes around the suspension tierod. Then use a little oilcan with a flexible spout...

Hi, I live in France and bought new can/spring assemblies from a well known southern supplier for my 1963 'A' series Fourgonnette. They arrived after some pretty heated telephone calls. When fitted, one was OK and I could get the correct ride height, the other side would not adjust (it was about 1.5 inches too high) as there was not enough thread on the front rod (it engages by about 1 inch now). Of course the supplier said this was normal, and their cans were perfect. Can you get longer eyes? Could I cut one up with a disc, and weld the back half of another eye to it, does anyone make longer eyes for sports etc ?

Hi bobh,
was this the set of canisters on which a rod pulled out of its thread in the eye as soon as you lowered the van back onto the ground?
(As mentioned on 2CVGB forum a while back.) :?

If it is, it would be interesting to know whether the threads on the rods are cut, or rolled like the originals...

Did you ever manage to compare the lengths of front tie rod projecting from each canister?

I wouldn't weld a patch on the can, just buy a new can and weld the old ends onto it. they are peanuts. If it's rotten, what's keeping the oil in?
