That's an other fine example of "Citroen knew what they were doing" (Sean).
But I never was certain if engineering excellence rather than economy reasons dictated them.

Hullo folks, first post from a new 2CV owner.

I tried searching but got swamped with answers, none of which seem to explain my issue, so here I am at your mercy. There's an irregular clonk/bang coming from (I think) the nearside front suspension. Worse when driving, specially when slowing down, but can be replicated by rocking the car side to side when parked. I thought it was probably the suspension cans in need of some oil, but that doesn't seem to have cured it.

Any suggestions as to the culprit and how to fix it?

Thanks. Checking for inner wing/driveshaft interfacing should be easy enough, but how do I check for a worn knife edge?

Loose damper mount?
Get someone else to do the rocking while you lie underneath/alongside the car, holding onto any parts which you suspect may be responsible for the clonking.
Always works for me, certainly more effective than driving it around and trying to guess what's happening underneath...

Good plan. I tried lying underneath and rocking it myself last night. That didn't really work out too well

After lubricating the cans (only with 4X 200ml of vegetable oil),
try to turn them 180 degrees.

It's allied to suspension, so not worth starting a new thread....
BUMP STOPS - anyone out there had any issues with them, like they seem to be bottoming out too often?
My D*lly's front suspension is set, if anything, too high (not by much, though..), yet the bump stops seem to show regular contact (and, BTW, zero contact on droop...).
I've made the bold move of removing the shims (both of 'em, on each side) and with bated breath look forward to tomorrow's drive, checking out as many potholes and part sunken manhole covers as I can find.

From memory, your deuche is an ex. raid car from Vic? Some raider do the mistake lifting the front (to give more clearance) That will strain the drive shafts and the suspension. I wouldn't remove any shims but lower the front to Citroen specifications, think it is around 195 mm from the steering rack bolts to the ground depending on what tires fitted.
