Well done james! i knew you would be able to do it. If you read the thread in the first place it would have been quicker though (yes that was a joke)

If this is dumb, my apologies - but we all have to learn from a beginning, and that's where I am with trying to understand the (Gallic?) logic/rationale behind the knife edges.
As spares, these came with our new Duck.

Even the larger of the knife edges is a really slack fit in the tie rod fitting.
Is there something I'm missing here?
And this is a really genuine query: why don't we substitute the knife edges with a cross-pin and rose joint (below): anyone out there tried it?

What's wrong with what Citroen did with the knife edges?

They aren't meant to be a bearing fit, it doesn't work like that. The actual knife edge itself acts like a fulcrum which 'rocks' on the shackle. They don't generally go wrong, providing they are kept greased. Why change it?

I think they are made for push and not for pull!!

Big one goes at back (knife edges)

Hi all - hey, don't be too sensitive: I'm not suggesting that there is anything wrong with the original design. One of the things I was asking (perhaps I didn't make it plain) is - I don't really understand the principle involved (a cross-section drawing would help). And James - thanks for letting me know the bigger KE goes in the rear, but it still fits a slack as a p***k in a shirtsleve: is that the way it's meant to be, then?
So are the rod end fittings (with the eye) the same diameter hole front and back, or is there a smaller one for the front?
And why is our suspension so bloody noisy (crash!-bang!)? This is why I'm so interested in the topic. Thanks for the replies - keep 'em coming please!

it shouldn't be that noisy. veg oil in the suspension cans should sort most noises out

Thanks Joe - I put some spare brake fluid (it's rubber-friendly) in the cans a couple of days ago, pulled back the rear sleeves to get it in as I figure with the lean-to-the-front stance of the Duck, it'll work its way through the whole length of the cans. can't say I've noticed any dramatic improvement so far.
Cheers, Geoff.

Check some of the "oiling suspension cans" threads before adding brake fluid... I can't remember if it's recommended or not...

and veg oil is cheap!

brake fluid? LHM? it may well be rubber safe. but veg oil is way cheaper. and if it drops onto the exhaust is smells like chips! also, are you rotating the cans? that helps it get to all of the dry bits!
