Post Re: All about: 2CV suspension
The 400 I've been driving for the last month or so is nothing like a normal 2cv. It has the larger dia springs, which are solid mounted. I'm not a huge fan, if I'm honest. It pitched fore and aft over undulation in the road surface and it absolutely, resolutely, will NOT go around corners, although I suspect this would have been overcome to some extent if the old man hadn't been a tight arse and bought toyos for it, and I would imagine the roadholding is more to do with the extra weight than the solid mounted cans. Having said that, my ami8 also refused to go round corners (solid mounted cans) whereas my ami6 is no different to a 2cv in the handling stakes (rubber mounted cans)

sorry, I went into musing about other cars and there was a lot of surmising going on in that post.

Post Re: All about: 2CV suspension
right ive printed this all out, and had a read from start to finish, im thinking of changing both cans, for new ones, as one is rusted through, and i saw the link to the ecas ones, do they come with ends? or do i use the old ones? or treat the car to new ones?

i dont know of the condition of them, right now,

also when taking the tubes and tie rods off, is it easy to take the knife edges out, or undwind tie rods till then come out???????

Knife edges are held in with clips. Easy to take out. I think you'll have more trouble with the large nuts at each end of spring cans. Can be rusted up unless they were coated in underseal and even then might be quietly rusting beneath the underseal.

You need to buy at least one, but preferably two 46mm spanners. Don't buy the ones city sell, they look feeble. You can get them for about a tenner on eBay.

Read the thread and it tells you how to do everything you're asking, and what it doesn't tell you, common sense should do.

Two spanners. There's two nuts on a single threaded tube. One spanner will just leave you spinning the tube as soon as the first nut comes a bit loose. They only need to be open-end, a ring end is useless.

we were looking at the teng tool 46mm spanner, and they wanted £50 after my discount. 50 for one spanner?!?!?!?!?!

Quality is always worth paying a bit for, especially as you'll usually be putting a good bit of force through such a big spanner. But your £25 for two spanners should do the job, just not as often or for as long. ;)
