Anyone got a diagram for the two relays on my 2cv?
I think they are for the headlights.
Cheers

The two by the battery that look like an afterthought, and usually end up cable tied to the battery clamp? They're part of the dim-dip system that was fitted to late(about '87 onwards) UK cars.

This is the diagram from Haynes, the relays are 39 and 40.

Popular opinion is to disable it before it burns out the light switch. Remove the two relays and make up a small jumper cable to connect terminals 1 and 5 in the socket with 5 wires.

Also get rid of the diode that's located close to the flasher relay and the resistor which would have been clipped onto the front chassis crossmember, as they're also part of the 'dim-dip' b*ll*x. ;)

That should simplify things a bit as regards 'what goes where'...

( The diode is 41 and the resistor is 42 if I've interpreted that diagram correctly.)

That diode near the flasher can is encased in plastic (sometimes refered to as a 'duck whistle) and Ken usually says don't throw it away, send it to him.

Do you still want them Ken?

It's there for the DimDip. Legal requirement to be fitted to new cars in the UK in the late '80s, but not an MOT requirement. The basic logic behind DimDip is that muppets were driving with sidelights only on. So... make the DIPped headlights come on DIMly at all times sidelights and ignition are on, instead of educating drivers to use their lights properly. D'oh.

As implemented on 2cvs, besides utterly pointless if you use your lights properly, it's unreliable and prone to leaving you with no lights at all.

There we go. That's why it was there and why it's a good idea to bin it...

There're far better uses for relays in 2cv headlights...

maybye someone disconnected it already :?: a diode allows current to travel in one direction only :D
