Hey, when disassembling the dyane engine i took of the cylinder heads along with the cylinders (barrels?). Problem is i cant put the cylinders back on. Is it easier to take the pistons off the engine? or is there a little trick behind this?
cheers
ps i bought a cheap valve spring compressor but it only worked for the first two rings, and then wouldnt come out.

I think you may mean piston ring compressor!
I can usually manage with my fingers but a ring compressor does make it a bit easier. Perseverance, practise and care. Use plenty of oil around the rings and bore, especially if you use a compressor. A second person to slide the barrel on while you manipulate the rings would help.

Wrap a cut open coke can with some hose clamps.

If you mean the head and barrel came off together and can't be separated I'd be tempted to do that first and lap the valves into the head and the head to a scrap de-finned barrel. If you haven't taken the head off the barrel you'll never know what the mating faces are like. If you've done that, then don't waste any time reading what I've written here, and use a coke can and cable ties as suggested.
