hello all, new to this forum. proud new owner of '88 2cv, it has been sat in a shed unused for 14 years. having trailered it home i have set about getting it running and back on the road. having replaced points, spark plugs, condenser, oil, filters, fuels lines, adjusted valve clearances, the car starts first turn of the key and idles really evenly. my problem is that when i depress the accelerator the engine is really lumpy as it gains revs at lower end, runs fine once at steady rpm, anything obvious i am missing, thoughts would be much appreciated, Steve |

Sounds like it could be the accelerator pump to me - it squirts some extra fuel into the carb when you press the accelerator to help it along until the revs pick up. If its not working that could be your problem. Take the rubber pipe from the air filter off the top of the carb and look into it as you operate the throttle control. You should see a squirt of fuel going in if the accelerator pump is working. |

Or operate the accelerator pump lever directly, pushing it downwards away from its cam. It's very common for this part of a carburettor to be 'lazy' after an extended period of storage, but spraying it with WD40 and operating the lever by hand will usually restore things to how they should be. |

I had a camper a while back, as well as a Charleston back in '94, until someone drove into it and wrote it off. Always wanted another 2cv, so here it is. Just hope to get it on the road asap. |

thanks for suggestions, I have given the accelerator pump good clean and lube and its revving lovely now. |
