Hi there. Can anyone help? My Dad's doing an engine change on a local 2cv (late model, two fuse boxes), and it turns over but won't start. We've traced it to a problem with the main ignition circuit (blue wire on the top fuse box) - there's no power there at all to this fuse. I can only assume that there's a break in the loom between the ignition switch and the fuse box, but before we remove all the loom tape/speedo, can anybody suggest anything else? We've cleaned all contacts and put a paperclip across the wires on the back of the igntion switch, to elimiate the switch itself. It would appear that the "dead" wire is the one on the passenger side of the car. Thanks |

What was the score before the engine change? I find it hard to see how an engine swap can suddenly cause a problem like that inside the car, way away from where you were working. And coincidence seems unlikely. |

Jono, is 12v reaching the coil? If not, a quick way to bypass the original wiring is to run a wire direct from the battery to the coil, which would check if there's a problem with whichever ignition system is fitted. If that works, whatever the problem is with the loom could be sorted at leisure... ken |

Just a wild thought, the earth from the battery is on properly isn't it? |

Is there a set of points in the 'new' engine. Is the coil connected the right way round? |

Bob, 2CV (and other double-ended) coils work just as well either way round. In fact, reversing the polarity of the low tension connections will equalise erosion of the plug electrodes resulting from the HT spark(s). ![]() ken bobh wrote: Is there a set of points in the 'new' engine.
