Post subject:  Clutch Replacement

I have to replace my clutch due to oil contamination (symptom was juddering when pulling off and the oil came from the gearbox, somehow).

But I have bought two clutch plates that supposedly have been for the older engine 425cc non centrifugal but both have been the same as the photo below (new one).

Can anyone tell me where I can find a replacement similar to my current one (old one). It has to be concave on the rear to avoid the protruding bolt heads on the back of the flywheel.

Can you technical boffs take a look at this part on Franzose and see whether it is the the same as what I have above. I think it is but will need to buy the complete kit.

In the picture, does the face that we can see face the flywheel? Is you plate 160mm diameter?
If its yes to both those, then it looks like thats the one for you.(I take it it hasnt got a trafficlutch?)

yep both sides face the flywheel. And yes 160mm.

I assume a traficlutch is centrifugal - mine is just a standard clutch (which seems to be not standard on my car according to others).

My advice is to stay well clear of that reproduction kit. The bearing likes to cut serious groves in to the diaphragm blades. I recommend to keep your old pressure plate and thrust bearing but replace friction plate only. I may have a good used (good meat on and no oil)

Let me know

Keep this, just clean and lubricate

That would be perfect. The rest of the clutch mech is in good order. Just the friction plate was contaminated. I will take it.

Also, sent the other units to you today. Should be with you on monday

Cheers

Ian,
bear in mind that the problem with gearbox oil leaking from the gearbox input shaft onto the plate needs to be cured, otherwise the 'new' plate will be rendered U/S.
I can do that on later gearboxes, but not too sure what can be done with the earlier ones...
