I am trying to follow the procedure in the Haynes manual to test my charging circuit. The brushes look good and the cables too. The regulator was changed just before I bought it (not sure of its compatibility with my Ducellier) It says to remove the OUTPUT and FIELD terminal wires and bridge together - I can only find one connection with two wires attached, I am assuming this is it. I clamped them together with molegrips. Then to connect voltmeter to wire junction and earth - does this mean the two wires I have just disconnected or the terminal which they came from?? Are there any other tests I can do to diagnose the problem? cheers Ian |

i think they mean disconnect the output& field at the regulator end tryp,-- reconnect the wires to the dynamo then disconnect them at the regulator- test for current by joining them together and start the engine, there should be current between the 2 joined up wires and earth don,t take my word for this as gospel, but its how we used to test old dynamos |

Put both wires back on the dynamo correctly. Test that all wires on the regulator is also correctly fitted. Looks like that the earth is missing? The regulator may not work with the dynamo. What brand is it (stamped on top of the dynamo) Bridge the D+ and F (field ) on the dynamo to bypass the regulator. If dynamo is working some 8 volt should show on your voltmeter. |

Dynamo is a Ducellier OK I have put both wires back on the same terminal (both on the one terminal) of the dynamo from where they came from. I have disconnected the same wires the other end at the regulator (D & F) and bridged these together. Between those wires and earth I am getting about 6.15 volts increasing only a fraction when revving the engine. i do not understand why the D&F cables are connected together at the Dynamo end - Is this correct??? I have the regulator open - is it supposed to oscillate with the relays, it is basically not doing anything at all. |

No 1 wire on each pin sticking out on the dynamo. Not on the same pin. Each fitting eye have their own diameter matching the pins also different diameter. Leave the regulator wire on, do not disconnect. Bridge the 2 pins on the dynamo, rev up and see the voltage meter. |

i can only see one threaded stud/terminal on the dynamo ? there must be another one somewhere btw 2cv viking its possible to increase the pic size by clicking on it you probably knew that though ![]() |

Sorry to be a pain - I have to the two wires in the dynamo. Differing diameter connectors. The small diameter connector goes on the pin which I have arrowed on the photo above. Doe the larger diameter connector go onto the pin that has the brush connected to it? Ian |

I have just taken the front part of the dynamo off. The first picture shows that there are two internal wires connecting to the same pin on the outer shell. This is the same pin that the D & F wires were connected to from the regulator (on the front of the shell). Attachment: IMG_0502.jpeg The second photo shows the outer shell with the brushes. As you look at the photo the one on the right is connected directly to the shell chassis. the one on the left is not connected to anything?? Well no continuity to anything and I cannot see where it would connect when put back on the dynamo. (the photo is upside down, the bushes are on the top) Attachment: IMG_0503.jpeg Are there any circuit diagrams of the dynamo?? |

i think it does ian its the only possibility give it a go and see if u get power they definatly don,t go together on one pin/terminal |
