Any clues to finding a schematic for a 1970 AZU 250 - I have the Haynes manual and the restoration book but can't see it in there.

Waiting 5 to 10 seconds for the indicator relay to start clicking when activated, is this normal or do I need a new one (new to 6 volt cars)

Turning ignition switch off with key but leaving lights on keeps the engine running, turning off lights then stops engine. Is this normal. (Pull starter)

Left indicator is very dim compared to right, I am assuming a bad earth and will check tomorrow but any ideas welcome (possible relay problem?)

When pushing high beam lever down all the way turns off all lights, is the lever switch just worn a little, or again, is this normal.

no relays in a 6 volt car

if its a dim dim dip loom mixed to a 6 volt engine (stranger things have happened!) then all sorts of electrical woes can happen including headlights feeding the ignition circuit.

ps rule of thumb all carb problems are electrical and all electrical problems are poor earth.

These two could well be related, if the bulb is dim it's not drawing enough current, which in turn will make the relay 'lazy'. Check and clean all the connections to the dim bulb, and also check that someone hasn't fitted a 12 volt bulb.

I should point out my complete lack of experience with vehicles this age, but I don't suppose it's normal. As Sean hinted at, there is a diode in the dim-dip system which if it goes short circuit allows the light switch to feed the ignition. However, I think I'm correct in saying that dim-dip was only fitted to British cars from the last few years of production. So unless your van's previously been messed with by a Brit, the chances of you having dim-dip fitted are very slim.

Just trying to sort out my indicators - looks like to be the earth, at least for now, as I strung a wire directly from the negative of the battery to the base of the indicator lamp and all was bright.

Quick question - opening up the indicator lever, there is a small electro magnet. Is this purely used as an audible signal that the indicators are on?

i think its called a clacker, it makes a clacking noise when the indicators are operated, somebody posted a while back about it
i cant find a wiring diagram on the net
make sure your battery is fully charged tripyrennes, even connect a 6 volt battery charger to the battery whilst testing the indicators, then see if that speeds them up
all the earths&connectors need to be perfect especially on 6 volt systems

ps my brother has an azu van

It was the earth in the indicator modules - so I have modded them with a wire from the back of the lamp to a eyelet that the screw goes through - much better (this was after cleaning and sanding all earths from batter to chassis).

I think I have found the closest to the schematic - it is the only 6 volt one in the Haynes manual, so I will go with that and edit it as I go through the system.

Next question - where is the brake light switch. I think I have found it but if I have it is broken - how does it operate.

Pendant pedal or floor mounted?
If it's the former, there's a small spring inside the switch which pushes the plunger down, following the pedal, to close the contacts.
Test by shorting the two leads together...

Yes, pendant pedal type. I have followed the pedal shaft thru the bulkhead and to the master cylinder. There is a small square switch sitting above the shaft but not connected. There is a flat tab coming out of the switch which feels like it should be operating a contactor but when pushed,cpoked and prodded no lights come on. I will short it tomorrow but need to know if this is the switch.
Cannot find any info in the haynes or resto books.

Er.. that sounds like the old round button pedal rather than the pendant type. On the button type the switch is 'outside' in the engine bay and on the pendant type it's inside on the pedal frame...?
