Ami-6 or more likely Ami-8.

Ami 8 from my limited experience, I've got an engine which I've stripped, it has AM2 written on it and I was told its from an ami when I grabbed it as a spare for my old van. My other spare has a red tag but I can't remember numbers..

'048' = Dyane or Ami 602cc with 9.0:1 pistons, blown induction, etc.
Next digit is '2' and since it's a 'black label' engine, that pins it down to 1972.

Next?

Without wishing to hi-jack this thread, I have an AM2/048 2... labelled engine, but it is red, not black
What's the difference here?

Mark,
the 4th digit of the engine number matches the 4th digit of the 'year of manufacture',
so other information ( such as the colour of the plate and whether the small frame
has AM2, AO6/635 or something else stamped into it ) also needs to be considered...

Thank You Ken

So the AM2 / 048 2 010 921 gives me an M28 from a Dyane6 or an Ami8, with 9.0:1 pistons and 35hp :?: What might the year be: 1972 or '82?

I do also have a pair of red labelled engines:
A 06 / 635 with 090 3 054 288
A 06 / 635 with 090 7 015 496

Are these 1983 and '87 respectively, and both M28/1 (2CV6/Mehari) 8.5:1 compression and 29hp :?:

The AM label is properly stamped throughout, like the black one above, whereas the A 06 labels are semi-printed
