Was there a homemade version of that in an edition of 2CVGB news 'recently'? Recently could be any time in the last 2 years, it rings a bell from somewhere.

What's the point of that mod? Just seat your welch plug properly. :)

it stops the welch plug from popping out when you pump the grease in knightly,
--sort of anchores it down :) and increases the life of the k, pin/ bushes
if the welch plug is leaky theres no pressure when you pump the grease in is just comes out at the top and doesn,t get to the bush/kingpin faces very much
dunno what others think on the subject as i,m no expert :?

i recently did my kingpins knightly, bought the whole kit
the welch plugs seated fine
i boinched it in the centre of its dome to expand it and punched the remaining edging around it, but it had been replaced a few times previously
the edge of the hole on one side was mullered when it came to pumping the grease in is just leaked

I tried this mod the last time I did my kingpins and abandoned it in the end and went back to a welch plug. I tried O-rings, fibre washers, even epoxy leak sealer but none were a match for my Wanner grease gun which forced the grease through the washer rather than retaining it. The welch plug, although not sealing perfectly, was far superior. To my mind the whole point of the mod is to stop the grease escaping and so forcing it into both top and bottom bushes.
I think the original home grown mod you are thinking of is by Mike Phelan. It may well have appeared in 2CVGB mag but he posted it on the Yahoo 2CV List as well, which is where I came across it.
