Ok, so I picked up my 2cv today, lovely, coming back nudged 70, felt comfy for it, having had a few a series before I understand this is near the limits of max, anyway the smell of burning oil came through into the cab and also smoke came in :o . Also when off the throttle rolling the. Back on if puffs a bit of smoke

A) puffy smoke on re acceleration stem seals?
B) smoke filled cab faulty oil breather?

When I opened the bonnet it looked like the back of the coil was a bit wet with oil and it also appears that the dipstick does not seem to seat tightly on the rubber, it's almost like the dipstick is to long. I tried to move the rubber down the dipstick as to almost shorten the length of the dipstick but the rubber felt like it was stuck of located to the dipstick so I did not false

Thanks in advance

oily coil area could be filler cap open , breather to air filter pipe or general oil leak from anywhere getting blown about

your going to have to do more tests to find out what's up - compression test for problems with the rings, manometer for breather and a look around while its stood for fractured oil feed pipes to the rockers or a failed oil press sender.

the dipsticks all do that sir the metal patt should hit the bottom of the sump with a "dink" dont cut a bit off the end

if however every time you stop you have to push the dipstick down by 5mm then your rings/bore have gone

Ok I'll keep my eye out, I'll need to make a manometer and get a compression tester, hopefully it's nothing major
Thanks for your help

check the air filter to see if its got oil on it
it "might" just be worn rubber valves in the oil filler unit the "reniflard"
this is it but in french

i normally travel in my 602cc 2cv at about 50mph
if you want to trav at 80 get another car imo

Why?!

I have another car, id rather do 80 in a 2cv than a euro box modern car.., i was in convoy with russ having a ball as he was trying to loose me and couldnt. Its what's 2cving is all about. Not sticking in the slow lane at 2 mph. 2cvs are built to be hammered flat out, doesnt mean i go flat out all the time but i do hoon every now and again .

Part - no, all - of the fun of 2cvs is going faster than people think you should be able to. See also: roundabouts at 40mph.
