The only thing holding me back from reassembling my tuned visa motor is how to eliminate oil surge.
The 4x4 guys know this is more of an issue with the visa engine over the 602.
I have two Visas and both anti foaming mesh is broken...
An Australian engine builder suggests a horizontal pan 1/4 inch above the oil line with the only allowance being a hole big enough for the dipstick and oil pickup with a 1/2 inch turned down lip.
In a visa engine this is a lot easier than it sounds because of the shape of the casting in the sump.... my solution, $25 dollars worth of candles, a gas stove, and a funnel made out of an old spud cannon.

I'm hoping to have a clean flat casting to shape the steel for the pan from, if I can get it apart...
It is surprising how hot the engine case got from the hot wax, to hot to touch, and how long the wax stays liquid for...

More pics coming soon.

Ooo, interesting, not following exactly what you're going to do, so waiting to see the results.

Yes, that is what I referred to as the Anti Foam Mesh in my first post, it does nothing for oil surge, and like yours in the picture mine are all broken! Imagine what all those loose particles can do to the inside of an engine

Then you need one of these, oilaccumulator.....

It keeps your oil on pressure for more then 10 seconds......... this is what you need then to overcome oilsurge....

http://www.accusump.com

btw. I drive original visa in my 4x4 Ami, had never 1 moment of oilsurge.... (and I tell you Mount Olymps was only for Sissy's (but the only piece of film I have from that time (early '90))

out of the
ACCUSUMP™ INSTALLATION
& OPERATION INSTRUCTIONS

Surge Control:
During operation of the engine, the Accusump™ will operate automatically to supply oil to the engine any time that
the oil pump loses suction due to oil surges. Should there be a failure in the oiling system, the Accusump™ will
supply 15 to 60 seconds of oil (depending on engine size and speed) to protect the engine.

Yes that is also on the cards LPGO, these items are very expensive in Australia and for some reason hard to order at a good price internationally...
Here is a thread I started a while back: http://www.international2cvfriends.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=2034&p=40602&hilit=oil+accumulator#p40602
A bit overkill perhaps, but pre oiling will be nice ;)
