Post 6 Volt assistance
Any sparkies here?

This 6 volt Ami 6 arrived with a dead dynamo. Took the dynamo to the auto electrician but no parts available, sadly. Found another dynamo also Ami 6, auto electrician tested it and found it OK. Fitted it, regulator dead. Fitted new but it doesn't kick in until 7.90 volt. Would that be acceptable or too high. What is the limit.

Cheers
Viking

PS. regulator can not be adjusted.

I don't know if it's tru but I am told that when you have a Paris rhone dynamo you must use a Paris rhone regulator and with Duccelier dynamo a Duccelier regulator???? Otherwise it wont work!!!

Only info I can find is in 'Characteristics, Adjustments, Checks' manual, bench testing a Ducellier 8325 A or Paris Rhone XT 212 ( 6 volts).

Pull in voltage. 6.0 to 6.5 volts
Drop out voltage. at least 1 volt less than pull in voltage.

7.9 volts seems on the high side for charging, considering that most 12 volt alternator regulators are set at 14.4 volts, I'd expect nearer to 7.2 volts for a 6 volt system...

The battery is resting on 6.4 volts engine off. When idle, indicators are struggling but no worries when engine is going
