Post dyane 425 gearbox info, what else will it mate to?
i have a 1968 dyane 425 minus engine, but it does have its gearbox. as i dont have the car here in the uk yet, and also have a spare m4 602 engine, i actually know nothing of these engines or gearboxes as im more used to m28s and discs. will the 425 gearbox only mate to the 425 engine or is it possible to use the m4? any help would be appreciated on this?

i THINK they will go together
the flywheel MAY have to be changed, also the clutch plate and pressure plate
also the exhaust cross box as its different you need a 602 cross box
ps
i dont know what an "m4" engine is, or an "m28"

You might need an M4 front silencer, but not a crossbox, I'd use ami6 exhaust. I haven't done this conversion but I believe an M4 should go onto the 425 box ok, but I'm not 100% sure. If you've got the engine there then why not slip it in and see if it goes on ok?

If there's a 425 gearbox in our barn, I have an M4 we could try mating it too. I know M4-ing Bijous has been popular to maintain the look whilst gaining power. My only hesitation would be that the 425 box would be a bit pushed in top gear with a 602 lump driving it.

Ayjay, for reference an M4 is the original 602 engine used in the Ami 6, AK, AZAM6 and Dyane until 1969. From 1970 onwards a new family of 602 engines was developed that can be loosely grouped in the M28 family.

There's a trafficlutch box in my garage, I'll take it up there and have a look.

thanks guys, youre so helpful, i would like to really re-install a 425 if possible but could use the m4 if this is a possible fit? i also want to maintain the early look as its an early 425 dyane. my dad has a 1972 dyane6 so we are happy to have a contrast and also i doubt i will ever bring the 425 dyane to the uk anyway.
