Mine starts easily without any choke, but it wont run or idle without a bit of choke. It only needs about a mile though to get going properly. 1990 Special with a new coil :)

No choke required, especially if you have electronic ignition - give the accelerator a couple of dabs then turn over whilst holding the accelerator down a little and when it fires up blip the pedal until it runs smoothly....

1/2 choke to start, completely off after 1/2 mile.......

Back in the '80's when my 2cv was my only car, it was no choke to start and 1/2 choke for a mile or so

None and a bit of accelerator if it hasn't been run in 24hrs or it's cold outside then tickover with a bit of choke for 10 or so seconds then nothing whilst running

I think some people drive all the time with some choke on - why? (Genuine question...)

on mine i need half choke then without touching the throttle it fires up immediatly, it needs a bit of choke for a few miles till it heats up i,m running dg-nition and a high output yellow coil
i would advise anyone with the twin/ double barrell carb to unscrew the brass mixture adjustment screw at the lower front of the carb a tiny bit
its the one with the off-set screwdriver slot ;)

Nels,
I hope you're joking...
What's the point in the manufacturer providing a 'cold start' fuel enrichment setup on the carb, complete with fast idle interlink, if you're going to insist on annoying the neighbours by refusing to use it and play tunes with the throttle pedal instead? ;)

Since you mentioned electronic ignition, don't forget there's one brand of electronic ignition which sometimes isn't that fond of cold weather, making its displeasure evident by running on one cylinder for a while after it's woken up.
