 mee again! carb info
hi all, what does this do? its situated on the top of the carb by 2 screws , its some kind of vaccum thing that seems to operate when the choke is pulled, i think its broken--the operating rod should be joined to the disk? most importantly, can anyone direct me to an exploded view of a solex "a" series twin choke carb ? the haynes manuel is not very clear is this bit important?the diaphrams allright but when i operate the choke lever it doesn,t seem to do anything as regards this unit -- btw, this is the spare carb that i,m going to fit on the dolly-- ive cleaned it and boiled it in vinigar and removed all the jets and blasted every orifice with compressed air thank all! yer tiz

 Re: mee again! carb info
It's a device to pull the choke off if it's left on, I understand. It usually fails or falls off and is pretty much redundant anyway, so your best bet if to blank the holes off and not refit it.

 Re: mee again! carb info
thanks russell, i didn,t think it did much! thanks for repling so quickly my freind i,ll blank it off --------------- hopefully the engine will run a bit better on the first carb barrell , at the moment its "hunting"-- it pulls then doesn,t like the fuel delivery is intermmitant on small throttle openings i need 3 quater choke for a long time even then its very un-smooth on the first choke if i floor it no problem-- can i ask another q,russ? what is this offset slot screw adjustment here ?, i took it out and blasted the hole with compressed air, it took 15 turns too unscrew, its got a spring and a point - i re-screwed it back in 15 turns i forgot to add the whole carb and parts were washed in petrol prior to the vinigar!

That's an idle mixture screw, usually set by screwing in fully and then counting the amount of turns out. I can't remember what the correct setting is, but if you use the search feature in the top right of the page, it's been mentioned before.

Autobooks (picture of a Dyane on the front) does a nice exploded picture of the carb components. They often come up on ebay for only a few bucks.

 Re: mee again! carb info
ayjay, re. the 'choke pull-off device', these photographs should help you deal with it. Limiting travel of choke flap. by slcchassis, on Flickr This is as far as it goes... by slcchassis, on Flickr Running problems on first choke normally disappear when the 102.5 primary petrol jet is replaced with a 107 jet. I'd recommend that you try and resist 'screwing the idle mixture screw fully in'. Unless you're careful, the fine taper on the tip of the screw can be damaged or even jammed in the drilling, then you'd be straight back asking how to fix that... ken. ayjay wrote: thanks russell, i didn,t think it did much! thanks for repling so quickly my freind i,ll blank it off --------------- hopefully the engine will run a bit better on the first carb barrell , at the moment its "hunting"-- it pulls then doesn,t like the fuel delivery is intermmitant on small throttle openings i need 3 quater choke for a long time even then its very un-smooth on the first choke if i floor it no problem-- can i ask another q,russ? what is this offset slot screw adjustment here ?, i took it out and blasted the hole with compressed air, it took 15 turns too unscrew, its got a spring and a point - i re-screwed it back in 15 turns i forgot to add the whole carb and parts were washed in petrol prior to the vinigar!

 Re: mee again! carb info
ayjay, you could pass a drill bit through the existing jet, but if you don't know what you're doing, you might end up with a similar result to that on the car which kept Sean, Ronnie and myself busy at Snetterton recently. ( It wasn't even our car, just one which happened to be sharing the same pit garage. ) Anyway, it was using 20 litres of fuel in about 1 hour 25 minutes, which worls out at barely 20mpg. To put things into perspective, my Dyane used less than 20 litres of fuel to drive the 210 miles from Edinburgh to Selby in 4 hours today... When we pulled the secondary petrol jet during the race, it had been drilled out to 'about' a 150, replacing that with a more sane size of jet not only improved the mpg dramatically but it also made the car go faster. ken ayjay wrote: thanks for the pics ken, i,ll disgard the fitting and blank the holes off the bigger jet is quite expensive what with the postal costhttp://www.ecas2cvparts.co.uk/prima ... -1454.html Could i pass a tiny drill bit through the existing jet?(using my fingers of course )
