Post Stinky Car
Right, Molly stinks. Of petrol. I kinda like it, but it does make me quite high, which in turn makes it difficult to drive...

Now, there is no petrol leak, and we are still getting over 200 miles to the tank (or close to it...)

The car idles a bit quick, as I don't think the choke closes completely. Might this be the cause of the fumes?

Any ideas where to start looking, if it isn't the choke?

Probably unlikely to produce a high stench of petrol, but the pipe on top of the tank splits and it used to smell when I filled mine up under such conditions. Only a couple of bolts to remove to get the tank off to check.

could be the carb to filter box big rubber loose or cracked , sticky of mis ajusted floats or leaky needle jet float valve.

Ok, thanks. I will check those things out. Do you think the choke sticking open a bit might be a culprit? You can open the bonnet and close the choke by about half a centimetre after you've closed it all the way in the car with the knob....

Sean, would the needle jet float valve not affect the running of the car aswell? Like I said, the car runs smoothly...

yes that could do it adjust the cable and fix any kinks in the cable inner solid wire as they are usually the culprit for a choke that wont push home.

Also mine.
And the sender gasket too.
And the pump to carb hose too.

modern fuel rots the old fuel lines, check all along it for seepage, especially under the fuel pump

Funnily enough, I have a similar problem on the BB - its fine if I dont nail it on second choke but, when I do, it really smells of fuel - when you look at the carb body its wet with fuel and yet I have a new gasket on it from the carb top to the body...any ideas?????
