Daras (2Chevrons) has meant me a spare Solex 40 (Ami6) carb whilst mine is being refurbished. I need to clean the temporary one - I was thinking clean with petrol and blow through with compressor. Any further tips? |

Carb cleaner spray should remove gum and grim from all the orifices and jets and then a blow through with compressed air. No poking with bits of wire or the like. You could stick it in the dishwasher ( whilst her indoors is out ![]() ![]() |

i really would advise against putting anything made of cruddite through the dish washer, my Ballieterri coffee maker really suffers when SWMBO thinks it looks "dirty" many carb cleaners are for the outside and contain silicones and oil to give it a stay clean effect i use brake cleaner which evaporates fully and dissolves all types of gum and varnish spray it down all the drillings and then a blow with the air line |

when cleaning kart carbs I always used to use brake cleaner like Sean - evaporates and cleans really well - in fact I use it for a ridiculous amount of stuff... |

Just compressor blow through You can get 'jet files' to clean it but you can do easily change te jet size by mistake. Welcome to use my compressor When are you coming for those bits ?? |

I've "usually"* found that a good blow through with the dreaded WD40 works wonders Its about the only valid use I've found for WD40 *And ![]() T. |

i, personally think that wd40 is not good -- a waste of space plus gas ok but good old diesel fuel gets into rusty parts, and costs zilch |
