Just about to finish a Visa converted to points. It is mighty important to to fit the cam plate spot on. One way is to mark the flywheel when piston is moving up the barrel + a second mark when the pisotn is moving down the barrel again. I only have 7 teeth all together (no movement at all on the piston)
Any other way of doing it?
Should have do this before fitting heads etc but too late.
What is the timing on Visa 10 degress?

Have you got an old visa plug?
I know this is gonna be a crap explaination, but when you get it, it works very well.

Take the whole insolation and electric plug bit out, also cut off the earth (L finger of the plug). You basically end up with the steal part kind of bolt with a hole through.
Put a peace of rod or old bolt through the hole and let it stick out about 2 cm into combustion chamber side / plug finger earth side and securely spot weld it together (at the outside).

Now you have a device which will stick into the combustion chamber for a good bit.
Screw it in and turn the engine clockwise till you hit the device and mark the flywheel. Turn the engine anto clockwise til you hit, and mark the flywheel again. You may repeat this at the opposite cylinder.
The middle between the marks is TDC.
Obviously you need to mark from the same base of the crankcase (or gearbox if fitted)

Hope this is understandable and helps...

btw, according to my manual, yes 10° bTDC static ignition timing, than an advance of 21 to 24° reached at 4500+rpm.

I was hoping to avoid the sparkplug thing by looking and feeling when the piston stops moving and begin moving again. Both sides are around 7 teeth.

Why do you need to know tdc ?
When the pickup is at the higher (10 degrees) sensor opening , that is the time your spark is needed so then your points just have to open (at idle).

When you'r not using the sensor (bracket) in your car then make a mark at the flywheel and engine housing when it is still attached at the Visa/LNA gearbox.

BTW you can use one of my 1-2-Spark units, they will work on a Visa sensor (only 1 is needed at the 45 degrees hole) or a VR sensor (welding a pickup at the flywheel), (have you reed my topic)......... The sensor whil last longer (forever?) with my unit, using only 5 volt insted of 12volt (with spikes to 18 volt from the car)........

Don't know about the perfect product method... this is the way my mechanics found TDC when we adjusted rotary diesel pump timing and I used it on my car.
What would be the problem of this method, just do it carefull and make sure you don't leave anything in the combustion chamber.

btw lpgo, I seem to remember I did read some time Viking is a hardcore fan of point and mechanical advance (rumour goes he doesn't even use a scope...), so I'm afraid you can't sell him your system.

Bart I never don't use a scope either......,
(but my car starts better, has more torque, does burn less fuel, doesn't pink anymore runs smoother and I can tell I did it all by myself then the choise for me is easy.......... and yes there are still points in my car. )Didn´t use them for more then 5 months so...
p.s. this is no advertisement just how I feel about it.

Viking when I need to figure out tdc, I put a Chopstick into the sparkplughole and move the engine by hand, then you can see very good where top dead center is....

No worries LPGO, no offence taken. It is just me not liking electronic ignition or any other fancy stuff. I'm a purist and like my cars to be standard and original.
