Post Another question, sorry
Sorry about the number of questions I have, i'm on a deadline to finish the car before my daughter starts uni in september and never having worked on one before, so sorry if my questions seem obvious.
I am taking the wings off to spray them
seperately but the bolt/thead on the passeger side wont move and i'm sure it will become uncaptive if I try harder. If it does how do I repair the damage and get the wing off or will the wing come off with thread attached and the I weld the thread back onto the sill, or is it best to spray the wing on the car in this instance?

Thanks for ll the advice

Colin

In the past I have used a nut-splitter to remove this nut.....But if its gonna let loose then it may already be a little suspect...

if its the large nut your talking about at the bottom of the wing, the bracket on the wing just slots into it , so if you can free it a little bit the wing should/ will pull out
if u have a small gas blowlamp u could heat the nut then try, use a plumbers heat mat to stop any heat getting to the paint

cut the nut off with a grinder and a 1mm slitting disk

lots and lots of copper grease on re assembly.

the stud is part of the sill and if it lets go then its a sign that the rot has started, Its only a common or garden M12 so a suitable sized bolt or length of studding can be used to repair. Knock the old one in and drill through the hole and out the inner face of the sill, weld in stud/bolt start saving for a replacement sill.

Ian Seabrook asked a similar question recently might be worth doing a search.( oops wrong forum)

Well I gave it another try and it let go, so to get the wing off im going to slice the nut off the thread with extra thin cutting disc then get the old thread out and then drill a hole in the inner part of the sill to put a thread welded to a plate to weld onto the sill which will line up with the bracket on the wing.Well thats the plan anyway :D

cheers
