Post Fuel gauge is reading wrong !!
My fuel gauge has gone strange

When I rimmed the car right up just now (right to the top of the filler neck!) the gauge only reads 3/4 full.. I was surprised because I got the tHe petrol station on fumes (or so I thought) and was surprised when I only got 12 L in

Is there anyway of adjusting the fuel gauge..? Or is it easier to replace it??

I can't remember taking the gauge out when I had the body off.. But that doesn't mean I didn't..!!

I was hoping that it was catching but there's no way as it was suppsedly empty..

Any suggestions ??
Got to wait until the tanks empty now to do any investigations

I know many of you will say 'I never bother I count miles..' but that doesn't fix my problem...

It's always something of an irony when there's an actual problem with your car that needs fixing, as opposed to the superfluous repairs (new floors?!) you insist on having done :p

The next time you pop the body off, replace the unit. Or check the earth.

Personally I never bother, I count the miles... ;)

Ill drop the tank when its empty..

I thought for a brief glorius moment that it was working the gauge was reading nothing (what happens when its v v full) and turns out id knocked the wire off so popped it back on and it said between 3/4 and full.. So it had changed.. So i gave the bottom of the tank a couple of whacks and it now reads nothing (like it should)

slightly off topic but...

my speedo light is a bit inconsistent with lighting up - sometimes it doesn't light up when i switch the lights on until i knock on the plastic (about 5% of the time this doesn't work either)

Can I easily get to the light to check the connections/change it just by taking the whole speedo out and going through the back or is it a slightly sealed/closed off part? unclear in haynes (although I am tired and may have just missed it...)
