Right oh,

GSA 1299cc engine has a carb with fuel in and fuel return out. I have never bothered with the fuel return yet but i think it is needed to help it run right and be more economic. Currently it has an M7 jammed in it and a jubilee clip but where can I return it to?

Does it have to be back to the tank? Can I just fit a T piece inline before the fuel pump as a return?

Once i attempted to us the 2nd fuel tank as a return dump but it filled very quick and then couldn't be used (never fitted twin tank fuel delivery!)

Any ideas or should I just play about with the T pieces?

I think you'll be alright fitting a T piece as you suggest, although one of the benefits of having a fuel return to the tank is that fuel doesn't hang around in the engine bay picking up heat, a situation that makes it more prone to evaporation and vapour locks.

My second concern is whether it would be possible for the pump to suck air from the carb via the return line, you may find as a minimum you'd need to prime the lines to prevent the pump from just pumping the same air around and around. At worst you may find that the pump isn't inclined to draw fuel from the tank at all.

Actually the more I think about this, the more I think it's a bad idea, although I guess you could try it if it's not too much hassle. Maybe some sort of restriction(smaller pipe) in the return line would help. Ideally you do want a return to the tank, is there some reason why you can't? I fitted a return line on my car but it was a bastard welding the extra tube through the top of the sender unit.

I am lazy... just looking for a quick, easy fix without 2 lines running up the side of the chassis. I guess I can give it a go and fit an inline filter to see the fuel levels etc... Never thought about welding a new pipe in the top if the sender. Wish my van had a fuel sender access flap.... :roll:

I remember on my 1299 van I had the fuel pipe going back to just before the tank selector switch so it would not take fuel out of one tank and then fill (overfill ) the other.
