I just can't get the bolt in at the gearbox end, however here I try

I took the stupid plastic thing out as it came out with the sperdo end the first time I pulled it out, so could that have something to do with it? It just came out so had no choice. Went back on ok but maybe not straight?

The volt goes in as then just turns and keeps turning. Can't get the thread..

Spent at least an hour trying and trying.
I pulled the plastic bit and the speedo cog out to re align but it got dark and I got too angry and fed up!!!!!

its a f**ker to get especially when your loosing the cool

what i do is take everything out, fit bolt to make sure it fits and thread is free

take bolt out grease plastic bit and fit you have to get the right depth and the right angle fit bolt and remove again

then gently fit the cable check the blade is the same angle as the slot in the gear and fit you have to get the depth right with the metal bit and the bolt should just slip in

Yes, this can take an age. I put the plastic bit in, without the cable, then marked a scratch on the plastic against the gearbox when the bolt fits. Then introduce the cable, making sure you've got it at the right depth, and the bolt should slide straight in when your marks are aligned.

The secret is to lightly sand the yellow guide so it can easily enter and turn at the same time. This way it takes 30 sec to fit it.

I tried the bolt first too and no joy

I put one of my tiny screwdrivers in to try and feel the thread and / or see if it was oinued up

I also found it hard to get the plastic bit in when the metal drive for the cable wasnt lined up so withdrew that and put them back as one

Oh and is theremam easy technique to get the plastic bit out?

Viking i may sand it but i may try and get it work first

I had to walk away in the end as imspent an hour getting very angryn boood pressure must of gone through the roof

James,
in addition to sanding the nylon carrier if it's a tight fit in its housing, I always chamfer the tip of the bolt.

Run a nut onto the bolt before firing up the bench grinder or digging out the file, to help clear the thread afterwards...

So I can get the bolt in without the speedo cable in but as soon as I put the cable in the bolt won't go at all

Times like this I want to set fre to this stupid car
