I'm having issues with the running when trying to drive on second choke it drive fine until you put your foot down. You get your foot down and it just goes completely flat and doesn't pick up until you let off the accelerator. I have timed it up and done the points gap ect which are now spot on. I'm at bit of a loss now as any help much appreciated. Thanks in advance Dave |

Blocked carb jets/passages? Try taking off the carb air hose with the engine running ,give it a bit of rev then put the palm of your hand over the carb venturi, it might help the engine suck any blockage out. Failing that, get some carb spray or use compressed air to blow it out , and failing that, remove jets and /or strip it down and clean it up. (Assuming you've checked the fuel flow is ok.) |

Sounds exactly the type of problems I had with BB - Clean, clean and clean again the carb and especially the jets...... |

How do you use the choke when driving from cold, Dave? I find with mine its a bit of a juggling act until she's warm: Full choke to start from cold (unless really warm like recently), adjust till smooth fast tickover is maintained and let warm up. Once on the move from cold, she usually needs a bit more choke to pull away but once running this can be pushed in progressively over the first mile or so. Too much choke and she's flat as a pancake and by pushing it in gently you should find a very noticable spot when it'll start to pull properly. Remember, these are pretty primitive engines by modern standards (thankfully) and consequently need a bit of operator input to help them give of their best. Also, todays petrol is crap compared to that of even ten years ago, which doesn't help things! |

I reckon it's down to the wire between the points box and the coil. |

Sod it, I don't normally comment on techical stuff but, last few cars I've had with thosw symptoms have all had air leaks at the carb base...... |

Was there a final "this fixed it" to this post? I have the same issues with D*lly. Will be having a proper look over her tonight checking the usual suspects as mentioned before. TIM |

Check if your acceleration jet is working, when you completely open the throttle in 1 movement there has to be fuel squirted into the carb..... if it doesn't your engine doesn't pick up....... |

Sorry to hijack this thread. Still not got D*lly running right. Accelerator jet sprays fine, carburetor insulator block not very old, looks fresh and cant see any obvious leaks, jets cleaned, bowl cleaned, new fuel pump, good supply of fuel, float set at 19mm, timing appears ok (cant find my strobe though), mixture set fine (turn in until near stall then out half a turn), idle set good, choke closes fully, manifold tight to heads etc... car running on 123 ignition, I cant work points out and don't have the bits to try. Starts first time most times, not much choke needed ever, idles nicely, only recently become unable to give her the beans (2nd choke) runs smooth but no effort and cant floor her! Makes me sad... looks like Megane to Mallory now |
