So, do we have any contacts in Romania that can purchase a set of Oltcit/Axel ventilated discs and ship to Australia for me? I will make it worth their time. Or... Can they be purchased elsewhere at a reasonable price?  I would be fitting them to an LNA/GS box with a spacer between the callipers... Cheers, Harley |

They are in fact Axel/Oltcit discs but are for the rear, not the front... Type Disc Brakes: full diameter [mm]: 208 mm The mounting: rear height [mm]: 11 mm Thickness put a brake disc [mm]: 7 mm minimum thickness [mm]: 6.3 mm Number of holes: 3 Info found on this Romanian website I have made contact with someone in the Romanian Oltcit scene that will source some discs for me, 30euro a pair, but shipping may be as high as 150euro  I will find out soon enough;)Cheers, Harley |

Looks like shipping will be more like 250euro  thats with regular post, 2-3 weeks.DHL quote the price for 1kg is 150euro the price for 30kg is 900euro!! So does anyone know the weight of a pair of Ventilated discs at around: Diameter: 269 mm Height: 29 mm Thickness put a brake disc: 18 mm ? Cheers, Harley |

I've no idea what they weigh, but if you know all the dimensions you could calculate the volume and then the weight, (density of cast iron = 6800-7800 KG/cubic M, http://www.simetric.co.uk/si_metals.htm)  Has Viking got no plans for shipping any containers your way? Sure it would be much cheaper to ship them to France. Have you considered achieving vented discs another way, by modifying a set from a different car. That was how I ended up with Peugeot 504 discs on my car, they needed the diameter reducing, a little taking off the front mounting face, 1mm off both pad faces, and new mounting holes drilling. Getting that lot machined cost almost £80, it was more than I was expecting, but was mostly from the time taken to set them up to have the faces skimmed. With hindsight it would have been better to make a spacer for the center of the caliper, than slim the disc down to fit. I spent days on the Brembo website looking for discs of a specific size, This is their online catalogue. See the search by dimension? There was also a vented version of the Peugeot discs, I think from the faster 504, 505, and 604s, but I can't find them on the Brembo site any more. |

Good thinking Joolz, I've been playing with that Brembo catalogue for the last hour or so... and found a very similar sized vented disc to the Oltcit, but it is much to high to use: Toyota disc 2cv Disc So weight is close to 5kgs. Having discussed regular post with my supplier it would cost around $300au to land it at my door or $100au to land it at Vikings... See calculator here: Romanian Post But with customs at this end the fees are over the top as Viking and I found out on the last container. Viking what are you thoughts, it's 2 vented disc brakes and 2 calipers, around 20kgs. Cheers, Harley |

What gearbox are you thinking of mounting them on Harley? Is it still an LNA? Keep in mind that GS/A, and presumably Axel discs, won't fit on LNA output flanges. Not only are the bolt holes wrong, but I think the LNA flange is bigger than the 123.3mm internal diameter of that solid disc you linked to. |

Ohoh.... I assumed that the LNA falls into the realm of a G-series box and therefore everything is interchangeable... This is the first I have heard of it, I direct us back to this legendary thread  So the GS calipers will fit the LNA box but not the Disc rotors? how about if the rotors are machined; center and new holes? Sorry, not exactly following that last sentence, difference between UK and OZ terminology? In those photos Olli posted, those are GS discs on a GS 'box the unevenly spaced holes are original. The 6 evenly spaced holes have been drilled to match the bolt pattern on a 2cv driveshaft. LNA bolt pattern is the same as 2cv (6 holes, 108mm PCD, even spacing). Notice how close the holes are to the edge of the flange. Internal diameter of a 2cv disc is 125mm here and flange will be the same, not sure if LNA is the same, I'll measure the flanges on my spare 'box for you tomorrow. This is my GSA 5-sp gearbox And this is it with the LNA flanges here (both from my red one thread) Although you can't tell from the pics if one is bigger than the other, the unevenly spaced GSA bolt holes are on a PCD of 102mm, smaller than LNA's 108mm, so should give some idea. I'm measure them both tomorrow. The fact is that not only would Axel discs be bloody expensive to get hold of, but you'd still have to modify stuff to make them fit. That's why I'd recommend using a different discs. |
