Whilst replacing the cover on my Van's 'cheese grater' type wiper motor I shorted something out so now the wipers won't switch off unless I turn the ignition off.

I've disconnected the switch on the dash... and still they wipe!

What have I done?

Temporarily I might put a switch in the live feed to the motor, is that safe?

have you got the wires reversed, those two which plug onto the pins?
