Post Head advice pls
Hi Folks,

following on from my blown plug incident, (bad helicoil job) I managed to get the heads decoked, valves lapped and put back together...Getting the barrels back on was a complete pain and leaning over the wheel did my back no good at all !

Managed to bugger the exhaust studs when releasing the manifold on the "good" head so I have ended up with 2 s/h heads going back in. ........

Getting ready to pop the "new to me" heads back on ) and just want to confirm ........

1, These are the correct seals and are in the right way around? (its an '85 btw)

and not these ones.....

I think I have the right ones on......If I look at this, the ones with the tag fit fine.....

Do I use a sealant on the base of the pushrod tubes? And the cylinders? What sealant? Is this stuff OK? says "high temp" (I read elsewhere about smear of copperslip on the head/cylinder interface)

Was pretty oily "down below" so I presume the pushrod seals have been leaking for a while.....

Cheers !

Gerry

I believe the correct thing to smear on the pushrod tube seals is a bit of normal grease, nothing else, and I reckon those seals are the correct ones.
Some copper grease on the barrel to head joint will indeed give a better chance of a good seal.
(And don't try to put the heads back on with the rocker gear still in place as you'll stand a much bigger chance of mashing up the pushrod tubes like I did recently :x )

I'd second everything which Lenny has already advised, plus it's worth noting that either of those seals will fit.
Just make sue that those little notches on the backing cups for the spectacle seals are to the top.

I'm sure there's a description by Sean somewhere on the forum, about how to centralise the cylinder heads once the manifold is in place and also setting the barrels so that the fins are not in contact with the cylinder head studs.
