Hi, I have got a small problem of my 2CV6 cutting out sometimes when the engine is warm after standing in traffic. It sometimes just splutters to a stop by itself and sometimes after standing it cuts out when I press the loud pedal. It has done it a few times now and is getting embarassing as its always in a big queue of vehicles. I normally have to floor the gas to start from warm, but when it has cut out it won't start like that and when it eventully fires up it smells a bit of petrol. I think it must be trying to flood but any ideas on how to sort it? Cheers Steve |

http://www.ecas2cvparts.co.uk/ignition- ... -1159.html I'd recommend one of these, They're expensive but in general more reliable. |

there is also the other alternative of a new standard coil, but someone correct me if im wrong, the new ones supplied from Argentina are different to the original french ones and they don't break down inside causing the overheating? |

I have only had the car about 7 or 8 months so don't know much about it, it has semi electronic ignition. The car seems to have a few flat spots in the rev range you have to floor the gas to get through especially in 2nd and 3rd but otherwise has been ok. I have to floor it to start from warm and it seems a bit reluctant to fire straight away unless it has just been switched off then back on. I use it everyday so need to get it sorted, as from next week my daughter starts a new school further away so will be doing twice the miles I do now. ![]() |

Hi vidal. Does it seem to tick-over smoothly enough (all things being relative) before it conks out? How does it sound as it approaches conk-out time? You may very well have the answer yourself in your OP - the carb could be flooding due to the float not shutting off the fuel supply properly. Any signs of black smoke at any time during driving - when flooring it, for example, or when you manage to restart it after these stalls? Are you open to tackling this yourself? The job can be done in situ, but you need to take great care not to drop any screws or other bits down the manifold... ![]() I think I've seen a photo on here showing a modified spanner? Since the car is fairly new to you, a full carb clean-out might be something you'd want to do at some point in any case, so this might be the prompt you need! If you don't have one fitted, a fuel-line filter might be a good addition too. When you lift the top off the carb, have a look-see into the bowl and see if there's any signs of sediment or water - so don't tip over the carb to empty it until you've removed the top for a look. (All of the above is just a guess, of course...) |

I'd vouch for that, I've got one fitted to mine, and it was the only one in our group of cars not to get too hot in salbris |
