Talking to a couple in tescos car park as you do,in their recently purchased 2cv.told me they had a bit vibration over 40mph,and had been to 2 tyre companies who coudnt balance the wheels due to no centre hole,,got home and looked at mine and not a single balance weight either,do people get them balanced on the car or not at all :?

I don't generally get them done on 2cvs, there's various adapters for tyre balancing machines and chances are they can't be arsed to fit them, I've worked for three tyre fitting joints in the lower points of my working life and all of them had adapters but rarely could anybody be arsed to use them. Citroen saxo vts wheels don't have a centre hole either, so I guess they suffer the same problem.

As I said though, none of my 2cvs have had wheels balanced and they don't suffer any vibrations. If you get one that's down to balancing, the chances are you can move the tyre on the rim 180 degrees or so and it'll cure it.

Quite likely to be either shagged king pins or bearings

You could swap the wheels from front to back?

dammaged rim gives a shimmy like an out of balance wheel

Had to have last set of Firestones balanced but they were particularly rubbish tyres Old Miches were usually fine don't know about "heritage" ones.

Xantia, XM and C5 exclusives also have no central hole. Etyres have managed to balance the ones on my C5 ok, but I've never bothered to get the 2CVs done. As above, kingpins, trackrod ends and rusting rims are more likely causes of wobble.
