Anyone had an engine & 'box couriered within the uk?
If so, can you tell me how much it cost and recommend a service?
Thanks.

Thanks. Does the seller have access to a pallet, strapping & wrapping materials? That would, i think, be your best bet. You may need to make sure that both engine & 'box are drained of oil... I had 8 wheels sent on a pallet for £54 recently. These are the guys i used: http://www.p4d.co.uk/palletsOnly had one bite on Shiply & the quote i received was £120.

Thanks for that, Neil.
I guess the seller could stick it on a pallet quite easily, and ~£50 is fair enough for transporting it. Having said that, that sum would just about cover my fuel costs too if I picked it up myself, so I guess a trip to Wales is in order as it's a pretty nice place to visit!
Cheers.

I've shipped a set of 2cv tyres, an XM engine & box and even a complete XM interior to Norway on pallets. Surprisingly cheap compared to sending even a mid-size box via normal parcel courier. <blatant spam> If anybody's looking for quotes for shipping of odd stuff, give Gary at Smart Directions a call, and tell him you're a mate of mine. They used to be next door to my old office, and are top blokes. They're "courier management", rather than couriers themselves, so will basically do a lot of the leg work for you, as well as getting you a better price than just ringing up a random courier out the blue.

An engine would be too heavy for courier!

I sent an outboard city link, a 2hp 2 stroke, the guy was grumbling about the weight, as it needs to be manageable on there own

Re: Anyone had an engine & 'box couriered within the uk?
Thanks toomany - I'll check them out. Anything up to 30kg is actually surprisingly cheap to courier; I sold a leg vice on t'bay recently and that came in at around 29kg. It was less than £20 to courier to mainland uk and would have been only £3 more to include Northern Ireland and Scotland. Blimey, James - a 2-stroke 2hp outboard can surely only be around 15kg?! What a wus the guy was . The fellow who collected my vice was one of these heavily-tattooed, frayed-sleeveless-denim-jacketed blokes who just wasn't going to show me how much he was struggling. The pulsating veins in his neck said it all, though... . I didn't even offer to help as I knew he'd take it as a slur on his manhood...

Re: Anyone had an engine & 'box couriered within the uk?
Oops, sorry - it's a normal 2CV engine & 'box! (Any idea what these weigh - would it be around 35 to 40kg?) I bought this on eBay - I've just checked - back in August 2009! I had a loose agreement with the guy before buying it that, as I was in no rush for it, he'd bring it along the next time he'd be heading down the M5 - which he reckoned he did on a regular basis - and I'd arrange to meet him on there and give him a tenner for his trouble. This, unfortunately, hasn't come about - which isn't really a problem as I always accepted that there was a chance I might have to go and fetch it myself. He's now moving house, tho', and needs the room! It's also the prompt I need to get my finger out and fix my poor bludy 2CV... Just exploring the possibilities before taking to the road - it's 200 miles each way...
