Post 123 ignition
How does it work? I've got a car with it fitted and the car is slow as hell and pinks terribly. Am I right in thinking that I simply time it up with the strobe the same as points? Mark the flywheel with the peg in, then mark it seven teeth round and knock the box round until the mark shows up in the light?

Or does the magic box of tricks sort all that shit out on its own, and actually the engines had it?

I wish I had a spare points box so I could eject this crap into the bin. Best part is, the car came with a spare 123, so somebody has actually bought two of the bloody things. That's the financial equivalent of 23 sets of points.

Yes, you need to time it up using the peg and the LEDs to get it about right. Then set the strobe on it to get it correct, check the advance though, I seem to recall that there is a whole load of units with different maps. Rick Pembro spent time adjusting the one on my old dyane to stop it pinking. Ended up removing it and fitting a Boyer bransden.

I've prob got a points box which I can send you if that is any use?

Thanks Ben and Neil. Dave, you have PM.

Ben, I'll see if I can get the car to run nice on this wizardly box of nonsense, and if not I'll be in touch. Thanks.

remember as with points the strobe is deployed to ensure it doesn't go past max advance rather than using it to get yourself confused as to why the STATIC timing doesn't seem to tally when the engine is RUNNING.

yes Russ same procedure as setting the points with a strobe

123 s often bought to try to compensate for mechanical ineptitude, buying 2 of them just goes to show how stupid you are.

if you cant get it running on points and a standard coil perhaps you should take up stamp collecting or making pipe cleaner dolls.

Post Re: 123 ignition
This is why I'am making my own ignition, where I can adjust the advance by a push on a button.
The only minor detail is that it doesn't work at a car yet (advance) idlling is ok.

When it works well you'll be the first to know. ( Can take a year or 2)

There are 123 with a setting for different engines.. What is the colour of the label/sticker?

The pick up has an adjusbale unit (123/UNI,). With the standard setting the car was slow, with the right setting for the engine, the car was/is noticeable faster.

Ami has a black one (the label/sticker), on which the car runs nice, topspeed around 120km/h, with no problems.

Setting is with the 6mm peg, and rotating the unit to turn on the light.. first CW, then CCW as fas as i remember. But the manual is linked here..
I never did the check up with a marked tooth on the flywheel..
