Well here is how I do it.
Cut the lever and remove it. Now plenty of room to fit 2 new bushes.
Line up the lever and weld it again. The welding spot never come in contact with the bush, when 1st and 3rd gear is selected. Piece of piss.
Can't see any other way but some people tell me it is possible. However nobody are willing to share the ''secret''

I reckon there is. Opening it up is the tricky part but could be done with a pair of modified pliers. The machine used to crimp ferrules onto rope or hydraulic hoses could be used to close it up, no cutting or welding needed but unless you are doing hundreds of them all day it wouldn't be worth the machine costs.

I've got a ferrel machine for crimping wire at work (I could probably make my own clutch cable ins stainless ;) but its no where big enough!
Ive got a knackered one id like to replace the bushes in!!
